Overview
- Set pieces have gotten stale in FIFA over time. While FIFA 23 Coins free kicks remain too rare for my liking If you do manage to get one they are much more dynamic. Additionally penalties have been made less complicated for the better. Furthermore, corners haven't simply copied the same design as set pieces but come with a new camera view.
Not only have set pieces improved from a mechanics standpoint as well, but their visuals have improved. With strong players and those that are skilled in the air , they are becoming more useful again, it's nice to have EA make improvements in this part within the games.
A feature that I am most interested in experiencing in person was the brand new Physics system. As HyperMotion 2 being touted as an attempt to incorporate real-world physics into the game, I wanted to find out if these changes were actually affecting the game. It's an interesting mix regarding this aspect. On the other side, you'll see the new ball's physics when you switch play. The ball turns and spins precisely as you follow the ball's flight.
On the other hand the features EA highlighted pre-release such as deflections and collision physics look and feel the same as the previous year. While the weight of the players has increased, which is a good thing, players still collide with each other and cause unrealistic collisions, especially considering the habit of keeping your fingers firmly positioned over it. The sprint buttons. The majority of the new deflections produced by the extended leg or foot can only be seen on replay, and from the the replays I've seen -- especially those of the power type may cause painful injuries. Deflections and 50-50s will always favor the AI particularly as you get used with the latest body types and the meaning they convey for acceleration.
HyperMotion and realistic physical physics aren't working. There's still way too much sliding and unnatural movements which sabotage what should be realistic outcomes. Sliders such as OS' Community Sliders help to slow the game down and make the game more sim, but they can only do only so much when it comes to physical physics.
In this deep dive, I'll be examining the new game features that are included to players FIFA 23 to give my opinion on which of them will have an impact on game, what kind of impacts (negative or positive) they've created and whether there's an opportunity for improvement. For the list of new features, let's refer to EA's FIFA 23 site. In grading FIFA 23 we'll make use of one of the standard 1-5 rankings, with 5 being a "great addition" with 1 representing "why did EA take the cheap FUT 23 Coins time to even consider adding this?"
