Overview
Lol the two are not comparable. Pso2 is old, BDO came out in PSO2 Meseta korean fashion. Ping mattered in BDO, it does not in PSO. BDO did not censor nor need nonexistent requirements and also a microsoft account to play for no reason. BDO did not have a fan translation group translating everything as soon as it released, PSO does and will later NA launch. Appears like SEGA got tired of idiots needing them to port it (if they had all of the tools given to them to play) and so are finally using this as an excuse never to bring another mmo over here when it fails.
Btw if a person wants to know why it was not localized sooner that's actually mostly Gearbox's fault again fuck you Randy: PSO2's first projected western localization and maintenance funding was hailed from projected Colonial Marines profits, which should have been a Slam Dunk awarded the value of the Aliens brand - Obviously Gearbox found a way to fuck up that. That was a bomb so awful that Sega of America had to go into Austerity Mode and put off nearly all of their Localization staff, not only indefinitely delay PSO2. Of which they would not recover until Sega had and bought Atlus all that laid off staff is effectively replaced by Atlus USA.
Honestly it holds up as a great MMO. Because of this and the anime / game tieins it's been huge in Japan, and still holds up this much following release. That's why I have always liked the first and played it on a free server until a couple years ago. There is a surprising number of ability involved. I really don't understand anything about PSO2, though, and it might be totally different for all I know.Played equally, played first for countless hours. It's certainly quicker in PSO2, but I really do believe it seems just like a direct update to PSO (which seems like it should be obvious, I know.) It does things with less insistent mapsmore weapons enemies ect. And combat has verticality for it. I would recommend giving it a try and personally really enjoy it.
In case it appears generic, it is only because a lot of other show have reproduced it by this stage. There's elements of tons of series in the marketplace, and PSO/PSO2 did it initially. A good deal of western gamers don't recognize it because they got the matches, but not PSO. It may seem shallow at first, but it moves surprisingly deep and wide once you get into it. Which is exactly what you'd need any MMO to do instead of ditch you straight into it.No other MMO will skill-based action battle better. Closest item is Monster Hunter, which doesn't get too deep into the character progression systems MMOs thrive on. Should you like to dodge skillfully, watch enemy tells, learn boss fights, get equipment, update it, and GRIND till your eyeballs bleed, then it's well worth a try. If you are a fan of Warframe, PSO2 does style better, in case you are not fond of the gear grind.
After attempting likely dozens of MMOs from the most mainstream into the most niche, PSO2 is the only one that really stuck with me. And I love it enough that after playing on the JP server for two + years, I'm now taking a break because I anticipate starting over about the NA server. It just feels really great to playwith. You can play it solo, you can perform it with a team, you are able to play it casual, you can play it buy Phantasy Star Online 2 Meseta hardcore.
