Overview

  • Your choice of attorney will significantly impact the outcome of your case. But, not all attorneys are the same, and at times, changing legal representation may be the only step forward. But when is it too late to fire your attorney?

Your client’s attorney agreement holds the key here.

Every client expects their lawyer to be honest & professional. But sometimes, reasons like poor communication, lack of ethics, or the attorney’s incompetence may not be in the client’s best interests. Thus, clients can fire their attorney anytime – but there are consequences of doing so.

What to Consider Before Firing Your Attorney?

Firing your attorney should only come after careful consideration. From the status of your case to the client’s attorney agreement, many things can influence your decision.

But, firing your attorney after they have made significant progress in your case may not be ideal. For example, if your attorney has successfully negotiated an agreement with your ex-spouse, firing them at this stage may be counterproductive to your chances of obtaining a favorable outcome. Additionally, your attorney may have the complete right to their legal fee.
