  Phonological processing
  Learning the sounds that letters make to form words is an important skill in decoding or learning to read. If a student does not familiarize themselves with phonetics and learn to pronounce letters, they will have difficulty learning to read. Letters are mixed together to form words, and this is the structure of reading development.
  
  Knowledge of vocabulary
  Studying vocabulary words and learning the meaning of those words, as well as how they are used in sentences, is essential when it comes to learning to read. Not only does a student need to know the meaning of a word, but they also need to know how to spell it and become familiar with the connotation of the word. Many words have multiple meanings, and the reading student should be aware of this and words from the context will be used. Reading becomes difficult when a student does not know the vocabulary.

Understanding the structure of the English language and making the connection between words leads to reading comprehension.
