Overview

  • I've had a problem with game stuttering for WOW TBC Gold a while now. It's affecting all my characters. The stuttering doesn't seem so 'random' but reactive a lot of the time. When I change between weapons (2h shield to shield and vice versa) I stutter. I also stutter quite a bit while opening from stealth on my rogue in addition to dropping combat. It happens frequently particularly when there's a lot of activity, for instance, in raid-like environments. To try to test this, I turned off all add-ons. The results indicate that the stuttering is less, but still exists. This has me wondering what's causing it. My computer runs pretty well so there's no reason to believe that's the issue. I've tried removing addons and altering the settings for video in the game and reinstalling the game. Installing new bios or disable hyperthreading were among my options. It's not working. Are there any solutions to resolve this issue? It's very annoying. Imagine that your screen goes blank every when you switch from shield to spell reflect.

Update After all the work I did , and setting my FPS at an amount that kept my card at a lower than 50 percent load, I was experiencing flickering when running a Kara raid the other night. So I decided to disable Freesync completely, which appeared to have solved the issue.

It was disabled on both the monitors (both are the same brand, but different sizes/models) and also my AMD GPU settings. So far , that seems to have resolved the issue. I'll be keeping looking for further issues.

Original Post: I've experienced flickering issues, but I'd rather call it full-on studdering. It comes and goes at times, making it difficult to identify. It was at the point where it was getting me mad, so I decided to research.

The short version is that it is only recently that Windows permitted multiple monitor refresh rates after almost 13 years, Microsoft seems to have solved a long-forgotten issue in how Windows handles multi-monitor resizable rates. For a long time, Windows 10's Desktop Window Manager (DWM) created frame-skips and stutters running multiple monitors with mismatched refresh rates. Windows 10 2004 20H1's DWM is able to support hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling with WDDM 2.7 has finally appeared to have fixed the issue, as confirmed by one user on Reddit.

The issue led me switch between a 144hz main screen as well as a 60hz secondary display to one monitor at 144hz. I made this change because I did buy WOW Burning Crusade Classic Gold not want to go though the process of upgrading my system now as my old 60hz monitor was long due for an upgrade anyway.
