Jumping (W or Up Arrow) is an excellent tool, but it comes with a massive downside: you lose all directional control while in the air.
If you jump while drifting sideways, your sled will continue to travel along that diagonal path in mid-air.
Only jump when your sled is pointed completely straight, or you risk landing directly into a giant rolling snowball.

The edges of the mountain screen are a trap. While it might feel safer to hug the far left or right sides to avoid obstacles, you severely limit your escape routes if a sudden barrier appears.
