Overview

  • WOW WOTLK Classic Gold's next coming expansion, Dragonflight was just announced . It will include numerous new features, such as a novel race-class combo called the Dracthyr, whose Evoker class has some similarities with demon hunters. WoW Dragonflight's Dracthyr class will only be in a single class, which is called an Evoker. Evokers are healers as well as ranged damage dealers, making their class unique from the two other hero classes in the game: deaths knights and demon hunter. With their dragon-like winged look the Dracthyr's appearance is like demon hunters particularly when they are in demon form but there are some major distinctions with regard to WoW Legion's hero class.

The legend of this new race that is being introduced to the Dragonflight's Dragon Isles zones is that they were created to protect the Dragon Isles by Neltharion the Earth-Warder. However, the madman turned into Deathwing who was the destroyer. The reason he wanted to combine the elements of dragons and mortals was that the Dracthyr could be unique in their ability to accomplish what neither dragons nor mortals could achieve independently, in order to safeguard from the Dragon Isles and all of Azeroth. Hence, World of Warcraft: Dragonflight's new race, called the Dracthyr was createdto embody the flexibility of mortals with the power and wisdom of the dragons. The only thing they have in common to demon hunters is their scaly, horned appearances and their likelihood to not get old.

As far as gameplay similarities to demon hunters Dracthyr's shapeshifting abilities allow him to transform into Dragon form, complete with wings, tails, and scales and can perform unique feats in this form. Demon hunters are able to transform into larger demons with wings too but only for a brief period. Evokers are also a hero-class and begin at a high level just like demon hunters do (although death knights can also have this ability). Like demon hunters, Dracthyr's animations are unique to them and none other class does for example, like performing backflips, and the latter having the ability to fly over their opponents and inflict flames at them. Demon hunters were also restricted to two races: blood Elves to WoW's Horde and night Elves that belong to the Alliance. Dracthyr will naturally be unaffiliated with the faction and only possess one class that is available to them. But, aside from the flashy aesthetic of flapping wings , and having particular lore, this is where the similarities end.

WoW's new Evokers are a solely ranged class . They don't have any of the roles of the demon hunter group, which they perform (demon hunters serve as tankers or damage dealer). Evokers are either healers or damage dealers that range, and the only other classes that can perform both of the two are priests or druid and the shaman. Demon hunters are armed with leather (admittedly minimally because they're so fond of wearing shirts), while Evokers will wear mail armor like the hunters or shamans. Evokers or more specifically, Dracthyr - are genetic dragon-mortal hybrids that can choose to appear more human however tend to take on their dragon form when fighting (more similar to the worgen, one of the races added to the story in WOTLK Classic Gold: Cataclysm).
