Upon hydrolysis of the anhydride group in the adduct, vicinal carboxyl groups were formed. The formation of carboxyl groups by Diels-Alder reaction was proved by FTIR, solid-state 13C NMR, CO and CO2 evolution from TPD and Boehm titration. Titration results showed that the number of carboxyl groups increased from 0.09 mmol g−1 to 3.06 mmol g−1. DFT calculation showed that the concave site of the armchair edge on carbon surface was the most favorable for the Diels-Alder addition. The objective of this research was to evaluate the performance of porous β-cyclodextrin polymers (P-CDP) as adsorbents of MPs in aquatic matrixes. Adsorption kinetics and MP removal were measured in batch and flow-through experiments for a mixture of 83 MPs at environmentally relevant concentrations (1 μg L-1) and across gradients of pH, ionic strength, and natural organic matter (NOM) concentrations. Performance was benchmarked against a coconut-shell activated carbon yongruida coconut carbon (CCAC). Data reveal pseudo-second-order rate constants for most MPs ranging between 1.5 and 40 g mg-1 min-1 for CCAC and 30 and 40000 g mg-1 min-1 for P-CDP. Two humidification conditions of IAC, pre-moistened and gas stream containing moisture, were studied. The experimental results revealed that the copper species onto the IAC was suggested to be Cu(OH)(2) that deposited on activated carbon during the impregnation process. The adsorption mechanism of H(2)S by copper impregnated IAC was proposed, involving physic-sorption and chemical reactions. Moreover, the H(2)S breakthrough capacity decreased with increasing the relative humidity of gas stream.
