through Northrend at some point. The icy northern continent was first
introduced in 2008 along with the launch of the Wrath of the Lich King
expansion. Then, with the WoW: TBC version of Wrath due to launch later in
the year, Northrend is set to once again be at the forefront of the WoW the
process of leveling.
When players make their first trip to Northrend the first time, they're given
the option of travelling to one of the continent's two beginning zones: the
Howling Fjord and the Borean Tundra.
Although each zone is vastly different in their aesthetics and stories, the
leveling experience you gain in each zone is fairly similar which means your
character will not be at a disadvantage if they decide to play in one area
over the other.
Blizzard Entertainment shipped WoW's first expansion, The Burning Crusade,
with only one zone to start, Hellfire Peninsula. Since there was just one
zone to start that expansion's questing experience the area was overrun and
overcrowded on launch day. In subsequent expansions, players were presented
with several locations to begin the process of leveling in, with Wrath giving
players a choice between Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra.
Why should you go to for Howling Fjord?
Howling Fjord is a peninsula located on the southern side of Northrend. The
area is home to many new races, like the Vrykul as well as the Taunka. The
main storyline of the area revolves around the native inhabitants of the
region, specifically the Vrykul, and their violent response to the arrival
Horde and the Alliance. Alliance in the form of Horde and Alliance. Horde.
Howling Fjord is a zone where the majority of the land is covered by
mountains, ridged forests and cliffs with snowy tops in its northernmost
parts. Additionally, the opening sequence is a slow boat ride up toward
Daggercap Bay, which plays the role of the burning Vrykul ship that is
sandwiched between two mountains. It is one of WoW's most famous and iconic
cinematic scenes in the entirety of WoW. Those first few moments in the zone
are worth it all on their own.
What is the reason to visit Borean Tundra?
Borean Tundra is located on the southwestern part of Northrend, and its story
revolves around the battle between the Alliance and Horde. The two factions
hold two strongholds within the tundra area, Valiance Keep and Warsong Hold
located located within walking distance of each other. In this zone there are
vast expanses of land that include the Scourge-stricken wastes in the south,
as well as the resource-shrunk Geyser Fields up north.
Season 4 will be released later this year
As WoW: World of Warcraft TBC Patch 9.2.5 is expected to be released next
week however, the Season 4 of this expansion won't launch until "later later
in summer" according to Blizzard. This gives players who want to improve
their PvP or Mythic+ scores a little more time to improve their game. While
we don't know the specific date for Season 4. Blizzard has given players an
idea of when the next (and most likely the final) phase of the expansion will
commence.
