After an apparent ankle injury forced Wizards guard Russell Westbrook to leave Wednesday's Game 2 against the Sixers in Philadelphia, a fan poured popcorn on him just before he exited into the tunnel. Wizards staff had to physically restrain the irate Westbrook, and the fan was ejected.
After the game, Westbrook expressed his frustration with the latest instance of fans crossing the line. "To be completely honest, this s--- is getting out of hand, especially for me. The amount of disrespect, the amount of fans just doing whatever the f--- they want to do -- it's just out of pocket."
Westbrook wasn't alone in being disrespected by fans, as a New York Knicks fan appeared to spit in the direction of Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young during Game 2 at Madison Square Garden. While it's great that fans are safely back in attendance at sporting events, the athletes they come to see should never feel disrespected or otherwise threatened like Westbrook and Young were on Wednesday night.
