I know it is only testing, but one recurring theme kept being brought up throughout the broadcast and on social media. Max Verstappen & Red Bull.
The RB19 is a slight evolution of the RB18, but it just looks as fast on its first 3 days of running in Bahrain. The words being used to describe Red Bull during testing have been ‘Quietly confident’ - fast, on rails. You get the point, they look like the clear favourites heading into the opening round of the season next week.
The scary thing about it, they look like they haven’t even attempted a really fast lap. Which is always a good sign, So who knows what the RB19 is capable of in a Qualifying situation with Verstappen. He topped day 1 in both sessions with a solid runs on race tyres and then passed the car over to team mate Sergio Perez who looked comfortable when working through his testing programme and set the fastest time overall on Day 3.
Yes, Ferrari look fast as well and haven’t suffered any issues throughout testing and it looks like they will be the closest challenger to Red Bull in the early part of the season. Mercedes have a better car than the 2022 W13, but they suffered a number of issues over the 3 days of testing including a Hydraulic failure for George Russell near the end of Day 2 which lost them valuable running time for their race simulations.
The pecking order looks to be same as it was in 2022. The key being the subtle but new changes to the Red Bull in terms of the Sidepods and floor. The floor changes came with the regulations and it is particularly noticeable on the floor edge of the RB19 compared to the RB18.
Let us know what you think of Red Bull this season, can they win the title again?
