The Spaniard was back to his best after a mid-season run of relative underperformance after Aston Martins’s rapid start. The team that once looked to be Red Bull’s closest challenger now faces a 21-point deficit to McLaren for P4 in the constructor’s championship, and the first of the customer teams. But a fired-up Fernando Alonso spoke out pre-race against the fake news internet gossip that had spread false rumours about his disenfranchisement with the team and a future move to Red Bull. With his victory, Alonso put to bed both the rumours of his disloyalty and the rumours that the Aston Martin outfit were unable to return to their early form.
