Ryan Lochte is the second-most decorated swimmer in Olympic history, but his legacy is clouded by a caricatured public image and multiple suspensions from the sport, including one for fabricating a robbery at a gas station during the Rio Olympic Games. Having gone to rehab, bought a house and had two kids, Lochte says he wants the world to remember him differently. But as he trains to make Team USA for the Tokyo Olympic Games at 36 years old, he might not be able to swim his way out of the mistakes he’s made.
