In the opening round of the 2019 Sony Open in Hawaii, Justin Thomas had an up-and-down Thursday but eagled No. 9 and No. 18 to salvage a 3-under 67, placing him six strokes off the lead heading into Friday.

The Sony Open in Hawaii is contested at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu on the island of Oahu. In 2018, Patton Kizzire outlasted James Hahn in six extra holes to win his second title of the season.
