In the second round of the 2019 Desert Classic, Phil Mickelson carded a 4-under 68 on the Nicklaus Tournament Course to get to 16-under for the tournament, taking a two-stroke lead over the field into the weekend.

PGA West's Stadium Course in La Quinta, California is the host course for the 60th anniversary of the Desert Classic. It is one of three courses in use during the tournament, which includes the Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA West and La Quinta Country Club. Previous winners Jason Dufner, Jhonattan Vegas, Pat Perez and Charley Hoffman return to La Quinta. In 2018, John Rahm won the CareerBuilder Challenge with a final-round 67, finishing at 22-under 266.
