The first event on Day 4 of the 2021 TYR Pro Swim Series at San Antonio was the decorated women’s 100m backstroke, which featured six U.S. National Team members, the current and former world-record holder and the reigning Olympic silver medalist in the event. The race lived up to its hype, coming down to a single hundredth of a second separating Olivia Smoliga (59.49) and Regan Smith (59.50).
“I get so much confidence from them,” Smoliga said of the talented field. “It’s just March and there’s a lot of work to be done, but this means a lot to me to race them. I get to play around with strategies and find what I want to do when the end of the season comes around.”
