The proverbial late bloomer qualified for four events in her first - and last - Olympics competition. Winning silver and bronze in Rio in the 400m and 200m IM and gold in the 800m free relay, her final race was as an underdog in the 200m backstroke. Trailing against the favorite who beat her in the previous races, DiRado overcame a body-length deficit in the final 50 meters and rushed to the touch at the wall to be crowned Olympic champion with a lifetime best. No better way to finish a career.
